Hi Students,
Most of us tend to ignore it or don not have sufficient time to go through the basics as taught in previous classes. I suggest that it is very important to go through them once, to revise and clear out your basics. Sometime, very simple and basic questions are asked in CBSE, Social Science Board exam, we know the answer but cannot recollect it.
The series I bring here might be easy for some, ridiculous for others and a good revisione of basic of previous classes for some students. It is upto you , how you take it. I know shuffling through previous years book is a huge task……………..so I bring here a series………….Just go through them casually
It might come in handy at a later stage!!!!
Best of luck !
Will be eager to know your suggestions on this series …………
SERIES 1
WATER CYCLE
Water cycle has following components –
• evaporation
• condensation
• precipitation
• collection
Let us understand each in some detail-
EVAPORATION
Evaporation process 1
When the water from lakes, oceans and other water bodies, heats up due to heat and temperature and becomes steam and rises up in form of air, it is known as evaporation.
CONDENSATION
When this air reaches up in the sky, it cools down. Here it converts from gaseous to liquid state and forms into clouds. This is known as condensation process.
PERCIPITATION
When water falls in the form of rain, it is known as precipitation. This way it comes back to earth.
COLLECTION
When water falls in form of rain, it collects back into rivers and lakes. The rain that falls on land surface is absorbed and gets collected underneath. Thus the cycle is complete, water returns back to earth.
Water cycle is a continuous process
Water is a very important resource. This water cycle helps in living process.
WATER DISTRIBUTION
Three quarters of earth’s surface consists of water bodies. We can, thus, assume the importance of water in the process of living.
You need water when thirsty, plants need water to grow.
OCEAN
Ocean is the largest form of water on Earth’s surface. Ocean circulation affects weather and wind. It is a very important natural process.
OCEAN CIRCULATION
We know that sun’s rays do not fall equally over the earth. It is highest at the equator and least towards the poles. Because of the ocean water at equator, gets heated up more. The immense difference in temperature causes circulation. Like air, ocean water also circulates. Warm ocean currents from equator move towards poles. While the cold ocean currents moves towards the equator from the poles. This process leads to formation of –
Tides
Waves
Currents
TIDES
Tides are the effect of sun and moon on the ocean water. Due to gravitational pull of sun and moon, there is tremendous movement in oceans and these are known as tides. There are two types of tides
High Tide
Low tide
They are rhythmic motion and occur two times a day.
WAVES
Normally waves are caused by effect of wind over the sea. But sometimes, these waves take an ugly shape in the form of Tsunamis. In that case waves are caused by an earthquake or an eruption inside the oceanic crust.
